Spring 2017
San Francisco, CA
After purchasing their first home, a single floor unit of a T.I.C. in the Lower Haight neighborhood, a young couple wanted a kitchen space that was large enough to host family dinner with their extended Bay Area family yet intimate and well considered for their day to day life as a small family of three. We updated the millwork and finishes, created a breakfast nook, and opened the space to the adjacent dining room.
Fall 2018
The scope of this project was to create a new home for a family of 4. In collaboration with a local architect, the space was designed to host large family gatherings in the open kitchen/living/dining area on the main level while being cozy and private on the floor above. The finish palette was inspired by the natural elements intended to convey the sense of lightness and serenity that is reflected by the sweeping views of San Francisco bay and abundant natural light, especially in the afternoon. To achieve this we used light tones from a neutral color palate with accents of rich materiality and bold color. Lighting fixtures were similarly selected for their simple shape, clean lines and visual interest.
Spring 2019
Completed in two separate phases, the first began in 2016 when we reconfigured the master bath and adjacent closet area to better utilize the space and replaced the outdated bathroom finishes and fixtures. In the second phase, completed in the Spring of 2019, we renovated the dark and empty basement to create extension of the home’s livable space that could double as a guest suite as needed. The transformation included a full bath, kitchenette, work area, living and bedroom spaces. The finish palette throughout was inspired by the clients’ appreciation for natural materials and the vibrant textiles collected on their travels around the world. We balanced this with a backdrop of light neutral tones, small hints of color, and graphic black accents.
